Week 18 out of 20 is finished! Let's drink to that!
While this is oh so exciting, it also means obligatory drinks with students. These drinks can go either way: fantastic or terrible. This evening I had to go out with my evening 2b class, the lowest 20 week evening class. They're an interesting mix: 4 older gentlemen, 3 middle-aged women, and a few students. Of course, the older men are in charge, get the most drunk, and strut around like peacocks. Luckily, they also pay for everything. This evening, super-ajoshi Yu was in fine form, drank like a fish, spoke WAY TO LOUD, and forced his opinions on everyone. Of course, this is Korea where Confucianism is still very much followed, so all the other students have to put up with his obnoxious nonsense. Never mind that Jessica and Bony, the two youngest students, already are in relationships, or that it was none of his business ... Yu spent the evening trying to tell them to start dating. No, hang on, not trying to tell them, but telling them, very forcefully and repeatedly. And then forcing everyone to give him half their drinks because his was finished. And then singing, oblivious to the mortified faces of the entire group.
Aah, Korea, I will never understand you.
