*heavy sigh*
The long weekend is nearly over. Luckily, because I moved an exam, I also have next Friday off!
I did nothing special this weekend, but it was just lovely. I did homey things, like cook spinach and then freeze it, make yummy soup and freeze most of it for future dinners on busy days, and I even did some cleaning. Here's an up close shot of my freezer at the moment, choc-a-bloc full!
Note the precariously balanced tower of frozen soups, veg chilli, curry, and chickpeas on the left. It's actually concealing another tower behind it. Yummmmm! And at the moment you can see my favourite Costco buy: big bags of frozen fruit, excellent for smoothies. And on the top right, my all-time favourite: two tubs of Purely Decadent soy ice-cream, one Mint Choc-Chip, and one Chocolate Almond Brownie. There we go Mom, see, proof that I do eat well!

I found the cutest lunchbox set today. I thinking of becoming obsessed with bento boxes, (see THIS site to see why) The bento lunch currently displayed at Justbento.com is a meat one, obviously mine would be vegan and delicious. Now although the author stresses that people shouldn't be too worried about having pretty bento boxes, I am not convinced. So I've been on the look out, and today I found this one!

omg omg omg omg! Isn't it just the prettiest!!! the bottom box has two little lift-out smaller compartments, and the top box has pretty polka-dots!! I have a suspicion that these are aimed at little kids, since I found them with the Thomas the Tank Engine lunch boxes, but hey, polka-dots are for everyone!

I am most annoyed because while visiting all my favourite vegan cooking blogs yesterday, I stumbled across the most amazing-looking potato salad. But it leaned quite heavily on one ingredient that is hard to find here: fresh basil leaves. So I clicked past it, resigned to the fact that I wouldn't be able to make it here. I like to follow recipes exactly, I'm that kind of person. Some might call me obsessive, I call it precise. Anyway, what did I find today at Emart? Fresh basil leaves, of course. And now, for the life of me, I cannot find that blasted recipe anywhere.

Oh, and totally going against my philosophy of buying no more books because they're heavy and I'll be leaving soon, I got two new vegan cookbooks.

(I made the lentil soup for this one for dinner today) and this one. I think the authors are trying to tric people, because nowhere on the cover does it say anything about being all vegan. Hey, I'm all in favour of the tricking if it means more people will be exposed to tasty cooking that doesn't use animals!
