My favourite barista was on duty today, so we had a nice little chat. Last week we bonded over photos of our cats, after she saw the cat scratch post I was holding. I love these little interactions with people that you hardly know. I also love how when I served by new baristas at Starbucks, one of the other baristas will quickly fill them in about "the foreign girl who only drinks soy milk".
Also today, on the way to the store to buy mushrooms and soy milk, I walked past the little store run by an elderly couple. I try to buy all my groceries there to support them, but they often don't have all the things I need. Today, the grandfather was sitting out in the sun with his grandson, so I stopped to say hi, and before I knew it the kid was hoisted into my arms. Another different thing about Korea: kids are everyones property. So I got to hang out for a while with the grandfather and grandson, and have brief stunted Korean conversations, mostly limited to yes/no questions. This vision "white woman holds Korean baby" caused a lot of passersby to almost trip over, it was pretty funny to see their reactions.
ooh , i need ideas for names. I'm fostering this cat from the cat shelter, but he has no name.

Pippi and I paid a visit to the vet again on the weekend, to start getting all her NZ stuff sorted. This is her huge new cage that she will travel in on the plane.
She also has a leaving date: Feb 3rd. Feb 3rd is of course less than the required 6 months, but this lovely vet is fudging the paperwork for me. And i don't really feel guilty, because Pippi's an indoors only cat, there's no way she could have any of the things that the paperwork is for. She'll have had all the vaccinations she needs, and have been tested for everything required, the dates will just different to when these things actually happened. Poor thing, she had to have lots of blood taken yesterday, and 3 different vaccinations. I think she scratched the vet pretty badly, judging by the noises I was hearing from the treatment room at the vet. Quarantine in NZ is also almost all sorted.lastly, if you want to hear some Korean music that I'm currently in love with, click on this, this, or this. All are by Korean alt. pop/rock band Nell. I'm trying to figure out how I can see these guys. It's been a while since I've seen some live music.

I have always wanted to call a cat Samba. So you can call her Samba if you want :)
Oh I see he is a boy. You can still call him Samba. Or if you want something more manly...Todd?
Samba sounds nice, or Sambo? nice cage. maybe you can sell it on trade-me when you get here. You might not admit to it now, but there will be aspects of Korea that you will miss when you get home. bumped into Yasmin today - she is doing a month in gynae, will get to see a lot of her over the next few weeks. Love, Mom
i can admit it now, i'm know there will be aspects I will miss.
