Whenever I buy a new CD, I listen to it constantly, all the time, nonstop. At the moment its all about Keane's new album, Under the Iron Sea. I have already mastered all the words. The songs must have sneakily snuck into my sub-conscious, I found myself humming their songs in class today, woops! I got a new class today, elementary 4 level, and the brightest wee kids. They are so much fun to teach, they are up for anything, and they just soak up anything you teach them. Its quite refreshing, especially when compared to grumpy e6 classes, and the hormonal middle School kids who would rather be anywhere but at English school.
Speaking of school, its that time of the year where teachers hate being teachers even more so than usual. Yes, REPORTS. I have 121 to do by Wednesday. There goes my weekend. We have all these guidelines, like "don't write bad reports, or the kids wont come back and the school will lose money", and "don't write reports that are too good, or the parents will demand that the kid gets leveled up to a new class". Luckily, some genius came up with www.esltool.com, a handy website with about 6 categories and drop-down menus where you can choose phrases like "I'd like to see x concentrate more and use (his/her) energy for learning rather than playing." or "(He/She) is learning to attack words independently. "
I joined the gym today! Its under $15 a week, they give you clothes and towels to use, and they play really bad music. I went to the yoga class today, boy was that interesting. Yoga is difficult enough in English, having a Korean teacher made it really hard! I was probably breathing in all the wrong places. And Korean people are freakishly flexible! I have come to the conclusion that they have really short legs and long arms. I, however, cannot even touch my toes if I bend down, and fall over a lot in class when attempting any position that requires balance.
what else is new..... I found out where Subway (sandwiches not the underground train) is today! yummy. There are quite a few sprinkled around Daegu, for which I am eternally grateful.
Some strange things about Korea. I must write these down before I no longer find them weird.
* Korea has no concept of health and safety. OSH people would have heart attacks here. Power tools left on pavements, no bike helmets, its a wonder people don't get injured a lot more.
* you can only buy toilet-paper in bags of 28 or more. No handy 4-packs or 8-packs, why would anyone do that when you can buy 28 at once? These huge bags are often given as wedding presents too.
* at least 2 or 3 kids per class will be able to show you scars where they have been hit by cars. Drivers here are nuts.
* you have to separate your food waste from the rest of your trash. Every block will have a yellow food bin for this purpose. They smell a lot. Still, its gotta be done.
* you have to take your shoes off in any home and most businesses. We all have slippers that we wear at school. These shoes tend to ruin any stylish outfit that you may wear.
