fun and games at WINZ

Like Ken said, enjoy the self-esteem boost that comes with riding the dole-train. At first I thought he meant that applying for the dole would make me feel bad. Everyone else has jobs, I dont, I cant get one, so I have to go on the dole. No no! Quite the contrary. After sitting in a room for an hour listening to the obligatory WORK4U seminar that every person must attend before getting a dole application form, I felt quite good. I know its wrong to look at other peoples misfortunes and to then feel better, but in this case it was unavoidable. I'm glad I dressed down for the occasion. There were about 20 other people, all probably between the ages of 17-25. Most were wearing what looked like gangster clothing (hey, this is chch, referred to the other day as the city of the great white hope, ie: the most rascist city in New Zealand). One young gentleman had to be asked to watch his language. Our helpful WINZ spokesman was called Junior. He told us that he hadnt given this talk for over a year, so please, "dont make fun of me if I make mistakes". He also said "somefing" instead of "something". Oh dear. How can I take a person seriously if they cant speak properly?! The other winz person spoke about the labour market in chch, and advised that working in the hospitality industry was a good way to develop our characters. It was such a waste of time. I dont think I'll apply, I should be able to get some job soon, even if it is only being the night-time librarian at the chch med school. That would please my mother greatly, she still thinks that I must find a doctor to settle down with and have babies with. Apparently, if I had arrived in chch a few months ago, I could have met the 'lovely young doctor' that was working in her ward. Speaking about babies, did anyone see that news article about new research that discourages women from waiting until their 30s to have kids? Man, time is running out. How are women supposed to study, establish their careers and have kids all before 30?
My parents are away in Aussie, so I have the house to myself. well, almost to myself. I do share it with 3 cats, including a crazy nutcase Burmese cat, Frodo, who likes to climb tall furniture, get stuck, and then yell loudly for help. and now that the Commonwealth Games are over, I have nothing to do. Town is boring, the malls are boring, and I know 2 people here other than my parents.
