And suddenly it’s 2013!
Year One of nursing is almost over. Exams are done and dusted and I have two
weeks of clinical placement from next week.
It was supposed to be in December but I swapped with Kate because she
had overseas travel booked that clashed with her assigned placement. Ah,
Kate. I will introduce you to the two
people who’ve helped keep me sane this year, but I need to find a few photos
first. My placement is at Prince of
Wales Hospital in the Respiratory and Infectious Diseases unit. Hoping to see some good wounds, do wound
dressings and give meds.
I’m glad to be on holiday, but I am also very excited about this
year’s study. We get to learn how to
give injections! I never thought I’d be
excited about that, but here we are and I am
excited. The most interesting of my
eight subjects are medical-surgical nursing, family and children’s nursing and
contemporary indigenous health and well being.
Since it is holidays, I am trying to work as much as
possible. My research job is going
fantastically. My boss is lovely and
tells me at least once a day that I must tell her if I’m unhappy so that she
can remedy whatever it is that might be bothering me. She’s made it clear that she wants me to work
for her all through my degree – very good peace of mind for me. I’m working as a research assistant so she flicks
me all sorts of things. I love doing
research, but it’s quite different when you’re doing research for someone
else. Much more pressure. I also do lots of admin stuff, and for
someone like me who loves being organised and to-do lists, this job is perfect.
Anyway, that’s it for now.
This post is to keep Becs happy, and to keep to my New Year’s resolution
of posting more regularly.
