update

Now you all know that I abhor violence, but sometimes I’d like to just smack someone over the head. Take this example: A 37 year old women has 5 kids, although she only wanted to have 3 kids. She’s pregnant again. When asked why she doesn’t use family planning, she told us that her husband didn’t like family planning and contraception. Stupid husband! You’re not the one who has to be pregnant and give birth and do most of the caring of the child. This husband is who I’d like to punch and then while he is unconscious, quickly take him to get his tubes tied. And the sad thing is that this is one of many stories like this. I just found another one: 10 kids, she only wanted 2, but they don't practice family planning because of the husband. ugh.

I’m off to Manila tomorrow ? it' take 5 different types of transport for me to get there: tricycle, jeepney, ferry, bus, taxi. Should be fun! I’m taking my pesky computer to be fixed (fingers crossed!), and then meeting Carolyn, and then the two of us are traveling to Banaue and Batad to see the 2000 yr old rice terraces.

One of the great ironies I’ve discovered here is that the person who hates insects the most is the person who is most plagued by them. Yip, that’s me! Huge beetles dive-bombing me in me room, mosquitoes someone getting trapped inside my mossie net and taunting me all night, a cockroach in my bed, and the worst…. The Biscuit Incident. This incident happened last week. I always have a Milo with my breakfast, and on this particular morning Ma’am Tess had given me some biscuits from the bakery in San Agustin. They were layered and were packed in a sealed bag. I noticed one ant on the inside of the bag, but didn’t think anything of it. I ate two of the five biscuits. I saw another ant. I had a third biscuit in my mouth when I decided to crack open the 4th biscuit. To my absolute horror, the 4th and 5th biscuits were FULL OF ANTS! So it’s more than likely that biscuits one, two and three were the same. I ran full-speed to the trashcan, trying not to spit out the biscuit on the way there. YUCK!

I attended family planning counseling yesterday. Couples who want to get married need a certificate from the health centre saying that they’ve attended a seminar. It was mostly in Visayan except for the occasional anatomical term. So what I heard went something like “blah blah blah blah scrotum blah blah blah family planning. Blah blah blah blah blah injection. Tubal ligation!” It was pretty awesome.

And finally, does anyone else really dislike Microsoft Word 2007? Ugh. I do. But since M and I are constantly working on the same documents and then swapping and checking the work, it makes sense that we use the same version of Word. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it!
