My first Friday in Sugod is nearly over, and I’m quite pooped. Even though I’ve only been in Sugod for 5 days, it really feels like much longer. I’m sitting here in my room with the fan blasting, trying to cool down. I can hear the chickens, dogs, and the neighbours’ noisy black pig.
We moved into our temporary office yesterday (pics to come tomorrow) and completed writing our survey today. We also went into San Augustin today, but it was pointless because the people we wanted to meet weren’t there. I was a bit because if we’d just rung ahead it could have saved us a whole afternoon of first waiting 30 mins for a tricycle, another 30 min drive and an hour of wandering around dusty, hot San Augustin. I hate it when things that could so easily be organised are not.
I’m hoping to catch the boat to Romblon tomorrow, a town that actually has high-speed internet, a bustling centre, and mangoes! It’s all very exciting.
This evening I’m going with my host family to the weekly town dance, held at the basketball court. It’s pretty much the highlight of the week for the town.
Oh, and I’m still not sleeping through the 3am rooster calls.

Hahaha I love the new title of your blog...sounds like you're having an awesome time, reminds me of my time in Malawi. Do you have squat toilets too I assume?
You're awesome Ingrid, so proud of you for living a life out of the ordinary, every time you get grumpy just think of the great stories you can tell after this and how much better this is than an office job in NZ!
hey Carmi, thanks for your positive comments. Actually, there aren't many squat toilets (although I experienced my fair share of squatties in Korea). The toilets are just no-flush toilets, ie you have to pour water down them once you're done.
