Day 3 in the PPP
I don't think I'm ever going to get used to this heat and humidity. I'm just always going to be the red-faced and sweaty white girl!
I was up early again today, (well, early for me considering that for that last month I've been really lazy). Had fried bananas and toast for breakfast, and about a litre of water. I am a bit nervous about catching the ferry on Saturday because I've heard that the toilets are absolutely disgusting, and yet I will need to drink a lot to stay hydrated and to cool down.
Yesterday I went to SM North, the 3rd biggest mall in the world. I needed to get a new sim card, a plug adapter, and SmartBro. SmartBro is the most amazing little gadget, it looks like a USB stick and it allows me to use the net anywhere where SmartBro can pick up cell-phone reception. I love SmartBro!
The mall was situated next door to a huge slum, very weird indeed. This seems to be a pretty accurate representation of the PPP: a very wealthy upperclass and a destitute lower class. We bused back from the mall, 14 people plus the driver all squeezed into a minivan, of course there were no seatbelts!
Today we're doing training, tomorrow we're meeting with the Cycle Bead manufacturers, and Saturday we leave for Tablas Island.
My time in Thailand prepared me well for the PPP. Cold showers? No problem! Bucket showers: bring it on! .... actually, I'm having to psych myself up for those cold showers. I'm fine washing my arms and legs and torso with cold water, but when it comes to pouring cold water down my back, well, I have to talk myself into it.
