Whew! I finally made it to Chiang Mai!
But let me first fill you in on the start of my trip.
Saturday June 28th: after catching the 4.30am bus to Incheon Airport and catching 2 flights, I got into Bangkok at 4pm. Caught a taxi to Ken's place, but once we got into his neighbourhood, the taxi driver had no idea where to go (I thought the address had been translated by the taxi helpers at the airport, but apparently not).
luckily I had ken's number, and Ken speaks a handy amount of Thai, so we soon found his place. Ooh la la! it's so fancy!! Ken's mom Kath is also visiting, and she had cooked a lovely roast dinner. woops, I had forgotten to remind Ken that I am veggie.
Sunday June 29th: On Sunday, we visited Jim Thompson's house (more on that later), caught canal boats to the Golden Mount, and had afternoon tea at Erawan Tea House. Ken is performing in an opera this week, we went to his rehearsal, lots of fun to watch, and such amazing voices.
Monday June 30th: having mastered the skytrain and subway on Saturday, I made my way to the train station to catch my train to Chiang Mai. My ticket said 8.30am - 8.30pm. after many stops and some reversing, we eventually arrived in Chiang Mai at 12.30am. 4 hours late!! had big trouble finding a tuk-tuk that late, but some kind Thai people helped me catch out, and I stumbled into Eagle House Guest House at around 1am, and had to wake my hosts up to get my room key.
Tuesay 1st July: today!! atm I am drinking coffee and double-checking my map. turns out I am absolutely terrible at reading maps. I am doing a walking tour of the city today, might go on a trek tomorrow (elephants! river rafting!)
funny side note: turns out that when I open my mouth to speak to people here, Korean words come out, and I am still bowing at people!
bye for now!
