I am very very jealous of my parents, who are at this moment vacationing in Pigeon Bay, Banks Peninsula. (vacationing! I hang around with too many North Americans!)

A big part of the beauty is the emptiness and the vastness of the place, you hardly see other people. The house we stay in is a 5 minute walk to the trail that goes curving up and around the green hills, with fantastic ocean views. I miss New Zealand's beauty very acutely. when I was home in July, flying over the Alps, I realised just how much that scenery means, and how I just don't get to see anything like it here. it's just skyscrapers and cement here, and thick disgusting pollution, ugh.
