me: okay, lets practice some pronunciation. Can you say 'prefer'?
student: freper
me: puh, puh-, prefer
student: freper.
me: okay, lets break it down into syllables. puh, puh, pre.
student: puh, puh, pre.
me: good! okay, now fuh, fuh, fer.
student: fuh, fuh, fer.
me: excellent (yes, a lot of moral-boosting and encouragement is necessary) : ok, now lets try 'prefer'.
student: freper.
me: okay, lets move on.
