no, thats not a typo in the title, its intentional. Why? well because Korean students cannot say 'strange', they have to add an extra vowel sound in --> strangee. Which accounts for taxi drivers being flummoxed when you say "e-mart" but knowing exactly what you mean when you say "e-martuh".
so I've been teaching one class ever since I got here, so that makes it 7 months, which is pretty long to have the same class. I like this class, I requested to keep them. They are Middle School 1 students, all quite nice, eager to learn, and funny. except for one boy, whose English name is Nelson. I want to strangle him, he is SO ANNOYING. Whenever a students gets something right, or wrong, or says anything, he makes "oooooooooo-oooooo" noises, or he likes to say rude things in English really quickly under his breath (but loud enough so that I'll hear) and he's just a pain in the ass. I've written him two very unflattering reports, and nothing in his behaviour has changed in the slightest. Today, my Korean partner teacher for the class (i teach them reading and writing, she teaches them grammar and listening) came running over to say that his mother wanted to meet me. So out I go to meet the Korean woman who speaks no English whatsoever, not even 'hello'. So we say our Korean hellos, and then she just starts yakking away full-speed, So Yeon can't keep up with the translating, so I'm just nodding and smiling and saying 'ne, ne'. and then this woman grabs my hand, holds it in hers, and her tone is almost pleading, and she keeps on talking away at me. So Yeon later told me that she wanted me to not have a bad impression of her son. the whole thing was just weird. maybe, just maybe, if she wants me to have a good impression of her son, he should stop being a little s**t. maybe.
